Wilderness Walking Retreat : “Touching the Earth”
Southern Insight Meditation is pleased to offer our fourth 2 day wilderness/walking meditation (Yatra), guided by insight teacher Julie Downard.
Friday 13th Feb 2026 (10.00am) to Saturday 14th Feb 2026 (4pm)
The ancient and sacred tradition of pilgrimage, walking together in silent contemplation, present, open and receptive, is a beautiful way to connect with our world and each other. On our yatra periods of silence will flow into periods of spoken connection, as we take the time to enjoy nature, the movement of our bodies, our interconnection, and the simplicity of travelling lightly on this earth. Together we will create something much greater than the sum of our individual parts.
About the Route
We’ll be walking to the Woolshed Creek hut, behind Mt Somers.
While DOC refers to this as 5km of easy tramping, there are sections where the terrain is steep, rocky and uneven, and the path is narrow. You will need to have a moderate level of fitness, good balance and strong legs, and preferably recent experience carrying a loaded backpack.
The yatra is open to families, with children welcome (and not expected to be silent!). Children will need to be strong enough to complete the walk.
Our walking will be gentle, slow and in silence, with breaks for practice in nature, so that we arrive at the hut late afternoon. Once at the hut we break silence and move into spoken connection. Guided instruction will be offered throughout the days including a short evening dharma talk.
The Facilities:
This is a self-catered retreat. As with any tramp you’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag, cooking equipment and food/drink. Boiling water will be available. Full information will be sent following your registration.
