What is a Dharma Gathering?

The Dharma Gathering is a collaboration between Southern Insight Meditation and the Diamond Sangha Zen Tradition. It has a unique format that includes formal sitting practice alongside more interactive practices such as workshops, open inquiry sessions, dharma talks, bodywork, poetry, art, movement, debate and discussion. This is a great way to get to learn more about these two traditions and to meet people involved in them.

A significant benefit of such a gathering is that it cultivates a stronger sense of community and facilitates networking amongst like-minded people. It is also a lot of fun, and there are plenty of opportunities to hang out with good friends.

The dharma gathering format also places a greater emphasis on engaged Buddhist practice, and helps to cultivate a depth of inquiry into the heart of awakening with more emphasis on how these wise and compassionate teachings are integrated into the political, social, cultural and environmental spheres of our daily lives to bring about a culture of awakening for the welfare and benefit of all beings.

The Dharma Gathering is suitable for people of all levels of meditation experience.

Teachers
Our teachers will be Julie Downard, Di Robertson and Russell Walker from Southern Insight and Sean Weaver Sensei, a Diamond Sangha Zen Teacher.

Sadly, this Gathering will not include young children, as we have in previous years, due to the complexities of managing events in Covid times. For the same reason, numbers will be limited to 40 people (15 years and over), so if you want to join us, get in early.

Salute to Covid
We are keeping a close eye on the prevalence of Covid19 in the community and have  noted the current rising numbers.  As a result we are considering measures that may be needed to manage covid, if the numbers are high in January. This might include testing if you have symptoms, wearing masks inside or having to leave the Gathering if you develop symptoms.
